The Arts & Letters Committee celebrated National Book Month on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Sinclair’s East. Sorors and guest met and had a book discussion on the novel The Color Purple by Alice Walker. Sorors are excited about the movie premier of the musical/drama due to be released December 25, 2023, so the committee chose this book. For some Sorors, it was a first time read and for some it was a re-read. All were excited to share their likes, dislikes, and opinions. The discussions were very engaging, and comparisons were made between the book versus the movie and Broadway play. Soror Tenika Danley served as the moderator and Sorors, Tamara Cofield and Cheldia Ann Fairley served as panelists. Other subcommittee members for this event included Celena Pitts, Chair, Kim Willis, Co-Chair, Valencia McNabb, Co-Chair, Cathey Hendricks, 1st Vice President, Carol Cheatham, Melinda Everett, Jimmetta Gourdine, Gladys Peck, Audrey Peterson, Wanda Robinson and Robin Wood.
